Giant Pumpkins Department -   Welcome!
We are happy to have you visit us - both on the web and at the Fair.

Each year we volunteer to help adults grow and display their giant pumpkins and long gourds.  Last year we had the Connecticut State Champion- the largest pumpkin in CT!  You'll find us in the  lower-fairgrounds, right by the Lama Barn.

"QUEEN OF THE PUMPKIN PATCH"
RULES:
*All entries must be pre-registered; no walk-in’s will be accepted.*
See pages 3 & 4 for the schedule for entry form deadlines and delivery of items, as well as fairground directions.
Entry must be grown by the exhibitor, and only one official entry per exhibitor is allowed.
Exhibit of pumpkins of 100 pounds and over. Prize money of $1 for every pound over 300 lbs. will be awarded to the three largest entries by weight.
The 4th, 5th, and 6th heaviest entries will receive $100 each. The 7th through 10th heaviest entries will receive $50 each.
Ribbons will be awarded to the top 20 entries, but all entries will receive a certificate acknowledging their accomplishment.
In order to receive prize money, your entry must remain intact and on display for the duration of the fair (9 a.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday).
Pumpkins of all colors are eligible for prize money, and ties will be broken based on appearance. If, however, the entry is deemed to be 100% gray/green in color, the entry will be titled as a squash, but will still be eligible for prize money and a ribbon as stated above, since the placing is based on weight.
All entries (unless easily moved by one or two people) must be on a pallet to facilitate the unloading process.
All entries must be healthy and must be free of rot, holes/cracks that go through to the cavity, chemical or fungicide residue and serious soft spots.
No previously weighed fruit may be considered as competition.
All entries will be judged before being weighed in, and the judge’s decision is final.

"LONG GOURDS"
Entry must be grown by the exhibitor, and only one official entry per exhibitor is allowed.
Competition is strictly for length.
Measurements will be from the base of the stem where it joins the specimen to the most distant point in a straight line.
Only vertical length is part of the official measurement; curvatures will not count as added length.
All exhibits should be picked up anytime during the day on Monday, Sept. 27th. if needed, forklift assistance will be available from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
